September 28, 2018 — by Dick Broom on News

BAR HARBOR — The Bar Harbor Historical Society announced late Friday that is has signed a purchase and sale agreement with the Maine Seacoast Mission to buy its headquarters on West Street, which was built in 1867 as a 14,000-square-foot summer “cottage.”

The Historical Society would use it as its headquarters and a museum.

Seacoast Mission President Scott Planting said he is pleased that the two organizations have been able to sign a purchase and sale agreement.

“The future of La Rochelle as a museum and repository of Bar Harbor’s history is a great role for this beautiful building,” he said. “The Historical Society news is welcome and promising. This is still a work in progress. We remain optimistic.”

Maine Seacoast Mission Christmas Program
6 Weald Bethel Lane
PO Box 428
Cherryfield, ME 04622

Our office in Bar Harbor is for sale. We are not receiving Christmas gifts at that address this year.

Here is our suggested 2018 Christmas Wish List. The Wish List is also available for downloading and distribution in PDF format. Click Here. We like to stick to traditional, imagination powered toys, basic clothing, and personal care items. We try also to be good environmental stewards with a less-is-more approach to gifts and packaging.

With limited storage space gift cards are especially helpful. They. also allow us to buy items in short supply or to ensure, for example, a pair of boots fits.

Many elderly people receiving Christmas gifts are in nursing homes. Basic and practical items are very welcome, i.e. lap robes, nightwear, toiletries, puzzle books, or music.

Please get in touch with me if you have any questions about our 2018 Christmas season arrangements. Call me at 207-546-5867 or send me an email at mnickson@seacoastmission.org

IMPORTANT: Please include your full name and address on any package or letter you send us so we can properly acknowledge them.

New Portable Telemed Gear Expands Island Health Director’s Patient Reach

New Portable Telemed Gear Expands Island Health Director’s Patient Reach

BAR HARBOR, ME — Maine Seacoast Mission Island Health Director Sharon Daley will soon have portable telemedicine equipment to augment her floating telemedicine room aboard the Sunbeam V. The Sunbeam’s telemedicine room equipment uses videoconferencing and medical devices (i.e. stethoscope, blood pressure cuff) to connect island resident patients in real time with their medical providers. That connectivity relies on a land line for the Sunbeam to lock into.

Health Director Daley’s portable telemedicine gear is web-based, using Windows operating system, and fully usable on the latest Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome web browsers. The portable gear weighs around 12 pounds. Where there is a Maine island private room with an internet connection, Sharon can do her work with island patients.

The new telemedicine gear is especially useful when the Sunbeam is undergoing maintenance, or very high winds are keeping the boat in harbor. Traveling by other boats or airplane, Director Sharon Daley can maintain her island schedule.
