‘Alice’s Restaurant’ Group Enjoys Christmas at Downeast Campus

“Alice’s Restaurant” regulars celebrate Christmas at the Cherryfield Downeast Campus.

This group comes on a regular basis, each Wednesday, to play Bingo, and Mahjong, and celebrate birthdays and holidays. Today, December 6, was their Christmas party.

I love calling this weekly event Alice’s Restaurant. Alice Duston was the inspiration for this weekly gathering.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Employees Help With Maine Seacoast Mission Christmas Program

Bar Harbor, Maine – For almost two decades, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust employees have been donating gifts to the Maine Seacoast Mission Christmas Program and this year is no exception. The Bank’s involvement has been spearheaded all these years by Pam Farnsworth, Loan Specialist, who contacts the Mission, organizes the collection, and delivers all of the gifts to the Mission for distribution. This year the Bank asked for a list of 150 people needing gifts, rather than the usual 100. A list of individuals was provided referencing age, gender and wish; the majority of which were seniors. Half of the names were claimed within a day, by Bank employees at all locations from Lubec to Topsham. With money donated, a group of employees had fun shopping for the final names on the list.

“My co-workers at Bar Harbor Bank & Trust are so generous; it makes it a pleasure to participate in this program. It will be well over $4,000 worth of gifts collected this year. I find coordinating this program to be one of the most inspirational events in which I am involved.” says Pam. “The enthusiastic response to my request each year from co-workers shows me just how much the Bank cares about the community.”

Each year the Mission distributes about 10,000 holiday gifts to more than 3,200 children, families, nursing home residents, and prisoners at Christmas time. The tradition of Mission Christmas presents began more tha100 years ago when the Mission brought gifts to island residents and lighthouse keepers. Now, generous donors bring new items to the Mission throughout the year to be distributed on the islands and in Hancock and Washington Counties over the holidays. Many people who are now adults and supporters of the Mission say how important the presents they received from the Mission were. They restored hope that may have been lost and showed that people did, indeed, care about them.
