For over a century, Maine Seacoast Mission Programs have offered renewed hope and the support to sustain that hope to Maine people.
A total of 94 scholarships were granted in 2003 ranging from $500-$1,000 each. This program supports college studies, non-degree vocational programs, and childrens summer camp. The Emergency Financial Assistance program bridges the gap between desparation and hope when people have an immediate and essential need such as heating oil, electricity, rent, and water. Last year, 144 families were aided by this program. In addition to partnering with four island churches, our Ministries to Islands and Coastal Communities and Sunbeam Island Health Services rely on the stalwart Sunbeam V to carry a minister and a nurse with medical equipment to nurture island communities emotionally and physically.One of the longest standing programs, the Christmas Program has a strong tradition of reaching out to those in need at Christmas time. Over 3,000 presents were donated, wrapped, and delivered by volunteers to brighten the holidays for many families, shut-ins, and prisoners. The EdGE Programs for children include dynamic in-school, after-school and summer programs for five schools in Washington County. After three years in operation, this program has solid data to show that it is making a marked difference in the academic, social, and cultural lives of students. The Thrift Shop and Food Pantry in Cherryfield offer families access to essential food, clothing, furniture, and other household items.
