Housing Repair Ministry Volunteers of visiting church groups weatherize homes, build bridges, repair homes, and assist with projects to improve living quality for residents of Downeast Maine. These groups, which arrive each summer and are housed by the Maine Sea Coast Mission, have also cleared trails and built safe walkways for school children.

Selection process
The Housing Repair Ministry serves individuals in western Washington County from Steuben to Jonesboro. The Applications are distributed through other Downeast Campus programs in March and must be completed by June 1st. Only owner occupied houses and trailers are eligible. Highest priority is given to homes with the highest need. Not all requests are filled. Approximately fifteen dwellings are repaired during the summer.

Volunteer Groups
Churches and other volunteer groups, please contact Scott Shaw at to schedule your visit. The Mission coordinates all of the home repair projects to match the skills of the volunteers. Scott Shaw works with homeowners and volunteers throughout the summer to guarantee the success of the program. Housing, which includes a place to sleep, bathrooms, showers, and a kitchen, is provided at the Downeast Campus in Cherryfield. Volunteer groups bring food and any other necessities. Volunteers fundraise to offset the cost of materials for the repair or weatherization project. The Mission has a tool inventory so that the volunteers will have the necessary tools for each job.
