AmeriCorps Position
At the Maine Sea Coast Mission's
Downeast Campus


The Maine Sea Coast Mission is accepting applications for an AmeriCorps position at the Downeast Campus in Cherryfield Maine. The member will work with the Mission’s Emergency Fuel Assistance Program and with the Washington County Food and Fuel Assistance Alliance (WCFFAA). With the Mission, the member will work directly with clients requesting help with heating fuel and other necessities. With the Alliance, the member will work with a dedicated group of people from churches, food pantries and other social service agencies in Washington County to build a county wide effort to address these needs.

A ten month commitment is required. Compensation includes a modest living allowance, health care, and other benefits. At the completion of the term of service, s/he can choose to receive either an education award worth $5,000, or $1,200 in cash.
M aine Sea Coast Mission responsibilities include:

• Provide fuel and other assistance to low income community members through the Mission’s Emergency Fuel Assistance Program
• Help coordinate community weatherization projects
• Assist with expansion of the Maine Sea Coast Mission’s housing repair program
• Help develop a volunteer management program for the Mission

Washington County Food and Fuel Assistance Alliance responsibilities include:

• Assist with management of the WCFFAA data base
• Expand and manage the Washington County Faith Based Fuel Cooperative, a program of WCFFAA
• Prepare publications, newsletters and email communication for the expanding WCFFAA network of people and organizations including state and national representatives

Assist with fundraising for fuel assistance, food and weatherization materials for Washington County residents.
