Campaign The Maine Sea Coast Mission has
launched a $12 million Centennial Campaign to
expand and sustain its essential services to the
children and families of Downeast Maine.
For 100 years we have provided health, spiritual,
and emotional care to the people who live on the
islands and coastal areas. As we enter our second
century, we are determined to continue to meet
the changing needs of the people we serve—to bring
hope to those in want.
Our neighbors Downeast are struggling with dwindling
economic resources, a lack of affordable housing,
marginal health insurance or none at all, minimal
access to medical and geriatric care, alcohol
and drug abuse, and teen pregnancy and suicide.
They need hope now more than ever, and our mission
remains unwavering. We will continue to provide
spiritual, emotional, and practical support to
the people we serve. But today we face new challenges
in our coastal and island communities, and we
are designing new programs to address these needs.
The Mission’s service area extends for
over 300 miles, from Monhegan and the islands
of Penobscot Bay to the shores of Washington County
that stretch northeastward to Canada. We have
developed strong, innovative programs to address
not only immediate concerns, but also the root
causes of long term problems that threaten the
survival of our island and rural coastal communities.
This Campaign will fund five important initiatives
designed to respond to critical human needs: three
to strengthen and support year-round island communities
and two to encourage and educate young people
in coastal Downeast Maine.
