Successful Centennial Capital
Campaign
Lee Judd, President of the Maine Sea Coast Mission board of directors, announced at the Mission's 104th annual meeting on July 16, 2009, that the Mission had successfully completed its $12 million Centennial Capital Campaign called "Hope in Action."
This was a campaign in which people from all income levels participated with 400 donors supporting the campaign. As with all successful capital campaigns, this campaign resembled a pyramid with two donors with gifts in excess of $2 million at the peak of the pyramid, 11 donors with gifts between $100,000 and $1 million, 15 donors with gifts between $25,000 and $100,000, 61 donors with gifts between $1,000 and $25,000, and over 300 donors with gifts between $1 and $1,000.
All of the Mission's programs benefited from the campaign. EdGE now has a $5 million endowment which ensures the long-term sustainability of the program. The Mission also raised $660,000 to construct the Ed Greaves Education Center on its Cherryfield campus. The new building sends a signal to the local communities that the program will be there for the long haul. In addition, $165,000 was raised to support the expansion of the EdGE, which has grown from serving two communities through two schools in 2003 to serving 17 communities through nine schools today.
The campaign also raised funds for scholarships, with $1,324,000 being added to the Mission's scholarship endowment. This will enable the Mission to provide more and larger scholarships in the future. In addition, the campaign raised funds to create a $2 million endowment for island health services and $479,000 to expand that program. Finally the campaign raised funds to establish a $1 million endowment for the Sunbeam's operating expenses.
